Jim Smith, Making and Remembering Memories....

We welcomed back our regular Jim Smith for his first of three trips here this year. I joined Jim on the bank on Compton's Lake for the week, and what a week we had with 63 carp out in total.

The fishing started at midnight on Thursday after collecting Jim from Limoges airport from his late evening flight. We were straight down the lake setting up, and the rods were in the water just after midnight. We were full of excitement as to what may or may not happen over the coming week as we were trying out Dynamite Baits Complex-T 18mm boilies, and the next 7 days turned out to be one of those memorable weeks fishing that you never forget.....

The carp were obviously hungry and on the move as we were catching them all over the lake, from the shallow water (3 to 5 feet) through the mid water (6 to 10 feet) and the deep water (10 to 14ft). The bigger carp were slowly starting to wake up and show as the week went on, but with the weather still all over the place, we weren't expecting too much. Some of the smaller carp we caught were moved across to Harry's Lake (anything under 16lb) and it is testament to the health of the lake to see young carp coming through from spawn, and growing into our next generation of carp. There were some real stunners!!!

Jim had some firsts on this trip, with a double take, a triple take, a fully scaled Mirror, a Zip Linear and a Zip Linear with some extra scales above the zip line. There were also some Commons caught that had a few Mirror scales mixed in, and I cannot wait to see these fish in a year or two! A small selection of just a few of the fish caught over the week are pictured, with the highlight for Jim catching 'Marty' at 42lb 9oz, a fully scaled Mirror called 'Michelle', a lovely Mirror called 'Rose' and a Zip Linear called 'Lilly'.

As great as it was to see Jim, it was also with sadness in our hearts, as his lovely wife Julia Cracknell passed away in December.... She we will be greatly missed, but we were honoured when Jim asked if he could spread some of Julia's ashes at the lake, which he did on the last day in two very special locations where he made some wonderful memories here with Julia last year. It is nice to know that Julia will always be here with Jim every time he visits......
